I was sitting at home one day watching an old favourite movie of mine, which was Back to the Future. I was watching the movie and was really impressed by the cool characters and the great storyline. Then, I got introduced to....the CAR! Doc Emmett Browns delorean was like no other car I've ever seen before! What's more it was also a time machine and I was just fascinated...

In addition to this cool car however, was something else. A symbol from the delorean, which for me reminded me of the great antics from the movie, and which replicated the whole fun and fantasy persona of the movie. Now I don't know what it is, but every time I look at that plate is is instantly recognisable to me. It brings back the great memories from the movie and I always wanted one. That was all a dream I thought, who around here makes anything like that...?

Cutting a long story short

Well I looked around and actually managed to find one of the actual prop plates from the movie! Then I saw the asking price: £1296.00 which was the £ equivalent from the US $2250.00 asking price! Way more than I had to spend on a movie prop! It was very frustrating.

How your plates are made

Well, with lots of difficulty is the short answer!

First, your order has to be placed. Once we know exactly which plate you are after we can get the items needed to make it.

First, we have to get the basics organised. The correct backing is ordered from an agent we employ. They organise the raw materials along with pressing and cutting of the plate backings. The plates are made from a thin fibreglass ABS, which looks and feels like light weight plastic, but has more improved strength. These backings are then sent to our second agent who is responsible for the graphics.

This second agent arranges for the background image to be laser cut on to the plate backing, using a $150,000 Gerber marker computer. After that, the prepared backings are sent to a final agent who is responsible for pressing the lettering and painting it.

The paints are made with a special UV stabilising ink to stop fading in the sun. Additionally, this entire process means your end plate will last way longer than an actual DMV plate!

The dimensions for this plate is also accurate to legal specifications! That means if you have a OUTATIME license registered with the DMV, you can use our plates to replace the legal ones on your car!

The fonts used for the lettering are the official size, 2.5 inches in height (in the correct blue colour shade). The actual plate itself is also the official size, 6 by 12 inches.

Every plate we make is also sent in a plastic protective wrapper.

The additional details (such as round holes for the screws instead of long slits) are all worth the end result. You will know when you receive it that you have received a truly amazing product.

Delivery times

Every plate we sell is custom made. Although this is a time consuming process, we delivery relatively quickly. The attention to detail put into making these plates is staggering. It will take no longer than 14 working days MAX for your plate to arrive (although it is much quicker than this usually, varying on location)! You can be safe in the knowledge of our feedback here however, which is brilliant!

Delivery to the UK is £4.99 direct from the USA, postmarked direct to you. USA delivery is £2.99. All other international locations are £4.99, unless you're shipping off planet earth!
